"The Studio"

The Studio" School of Dance was founded in 1972 as Nancie's School of Dance.  Over the past 38 years we have grown, upgraded, and expanded studio space to what it is today.  Our new home at 250 Clarence is twice the size of our previous location on Rutherford Rd. This has enabled us to provide our students with the best possible learning environment at one of the best facilities for Brampton families.   Today we are:

The Studio – Dance * Performance * Music

In group format we offer Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, Latin, Pilates, Yoga, Zumba and Music Theatre classes.  Although we provide private instruction for any dance class we also provide private instruction for Voice, guitar, piano and drama coaching.

All our instructors in music and dance are highly qualified and trained teachers who love to share their passion and their art.

"The Studio" School of Dance was founded in 1972 as Nancie's School of Dance.  Over the past 35 years we have grown, upgraded, and expanded studio space to what it is today.  This has enabled us to provide our students with the best possible learning environment.  Over the past few years we have enhanced our program to include the fields of drama and singing to allow our students the opportunity to become a 'triple threat' (dancer, singer, actor).

We offer Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Lyrical/Contemporary, Latin, Swing Dance, Pilates, Drama, and Vocal (singing) classes.  Our students range in age from two to adult.  There are classes for recreation from beginner to advance.  Jazz and Tap exams are offered with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association (CDTA).  Competition classes are also available.

'The studio" holds two recitals / performances thru-out the year.

We take pride in all of our students and provide them with the opportunity to perform in a professional style show.

BALLET…WHY?

We highly recommend ballet to all students, new and returning. Ballet is the foundation for all styles of dance as well as an excellent training vehicle for figure skating, gymnastics and a variety of sports. If a dancer who takes ballet is compared to one who does not, the difference between the two is usually immediately apparent.

Ballet teaches discipline, control, proper body alignment, and identification of muscle groups. We reinforce all of these elements in Jazz, Tap and Acro. There are basics that are instilled in our students from the pre-school level. The more a student is involved in Ballet, the more it improves their other dance techniques. It also aids in learning the basics and preparatory steps, which allow faster progression in other classes.

Students enrolled in Ballet may progress at a faster rate than those who do not and may be moved to a different level in other disciplines. If you wish to compete or take exams you must be enrolled in Ballet.

Ballet classes are taught within an atmosphere that promotes fun as well as discipline. Not a class to be afraid of, instead Ballet is a dance form to be enjoyed!

Why not take two Ballet classes a week? Ask about our open Ballet class.

GENERAL INFORMATION

HOW OUR LEVELS ARE DECIDED.

All students’ progress at a different pace and it is important that you and your child are patient. Becoming frustrated will only hinder the learning process and it will no longer be a fun activity. Each class will challenge the student because without challenge, there is no sense of accomplishment. Although one student may progress faster than his/her friend, this is not to say that each dancer does not have talent…they do! Please remember that the teacher’s decision whether or not to advance a student is in the best interest of the individual student. We make our decisions based on proper technical execution, timing, co-ordination, flexibility and ability to retain steps from week to week.

We try our best to keep children in classes within the same age group; however this does not always occur. Classes are based on ability and knowledge, taking age into consideration as well.

It is very important that children practise on their own time. Five minutes before class is not enough. If a student comes to class with an understanding of what was taught the previous week, and is able to execute the movement correctly, then the class will be able to progress as a whole at a faster pace.

As teachers, our goal is not to make professional dancers of everyone (although it is a pleasure when that does happen), but to see each student learn, grow and progress each year at their own pace. Not only do students learn the art of dance, they learn concentration and discipline, how to take direction, and to work with others. Then, at the end of the year, they come out on stage and put it all together. This is an accomplishment and a source of pride for everyone involved, including the students and their parents or guardians.
